4 Tips For Hiking And Camping Success
Getting out into the backwoods for a couple of days of hiking and camping can be refreshing, and provide some time for some down time. Having a light weight 2 person tent can be very helpful. Solo backpacking or just going into the woods with a friend can be the basis for lots of terrific memories. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t observe a few basic rules for your personal safety and care for the environment.
1. Pick The Right Equipment
What you take with you will determine the success of your camping trip. A 2 man tent is an excellent way to go travel light. Often if you have another person, a two man tent isn’t spacious enough for both of you and your gear. This is especially true if your hiking companion is very tall or rather large. If you are going to be solo hiking a 2 person tent is perfect for holding you and your gear.
A warm sleeping bag is another staple for over nighting in the woods. Although you checked on the weather before leaving it is something you can never count on. Overnight temperatures can drop rapidly , and storms can move in unexpectedly. The second most important thing after your two man tent, is a sleeping bag that is adequate for the time of year you are in.
You also need to be sure to have such things as a good knife, a comfortable backpack, waterproof matches, a first aid kit, cooking utensils, a change of clothes and a method to handle personal sanitation.
2. Setting Up Your Two Person Tent In the Right Place
Setting up a tent in the wrong spot has ruined more than one hiking trip. A high level location will work best and let you sleep well knowing that there will be no problems from runoff water should a storm hit during the night. You should never put your tent close to a fire. You run the risk of a small spark burning a hole in your tent or worse, burning it down. Another good idea is to pitch your tent with the door facing in the opposite direction of the rising sun.. You don’t want to walk out into blinding sunlight first thing in the morning. Angle it a little so you still get the heat, but not the intense morning light.
3. The Right Way You Should Store Your Food
Food is almost as critical as your tent. Stored incorrectly it can quickly spoil or become bug infested. Air tight containers serve double duty by both protecting the food and also keeping animals from smelling it and invading your campsite. If you have meats, breads, fruits, vegetables, or anything that is perishable, try to keep in a cool place. Always keep food away from your site, especially at night, in case roaming animals come through. It is also very important not to eat anything inside your tent. Any crumbs will attract small animals into your tent.
4. Pack Carefully
Packing for the trip can help save you a lot of problems when hiking in. Packing your 2 man tent, sleeping bag, clothes, and camping gear into a backpack is a science of its own. Proper technique will keep you load even and not strain your back while at the same time keeping it light enough that you can carry everything you need.
Just as important as packing for your trip is packing out your stuff. It is imperative that you never leave anything behind. Garbage should always be taken, and any waste should be buried away from any water. Carefully and completely clean your tent and all your other gear. If you leave dirt on your tent it can rub against the sides of the tent causing weak spots and leaks. Careful breakdown and repacking of all your camping gear will pay you big dividends over time. Taking proper care of your 2 person tent should last for years and years of great camping experiences.
