The quadrangle is the traditional style house in Beijing. The four-sided enclosed countyards, and alleys in the city tell more about ordinary people’s life and legends. The center of the quadrangle is a medium-sized yard for outdoor activities. The centre room is built and decorated nicer than other rooms in quadrangle. This centre room is warm in winter and cools in summer, which is usually lived by elders of the family and the side rooms for children. Usually, women live in the inner rooms, and guests and male servants stay in the outer rooms. The structure is in accordance with the rites and traditional custom of ancient China.
Alleys connect through the city in profusion. And most of them were built in the Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties that about back to more than eight hundreds of years time. When I walk around the small alley, I cannot stop to image that what ancient people to do here, who live here, what do they do and etc. It seems the history is just at glance of distance. Because, foreign tourists are very interested alley culture and history, so the alley tour is more and more popular in recent years.
Peking opera and teahouse are something special that you should not miss. Peking opera is the national opera in China. It first played in Qing Dynasties. The opera players dressed up in colorful customs, they also make up in bright color on the faces. According to the role personal characters, good people will make up red face, bad people is white. Even you don’t understand the show, you still able to have a bit clue of the story. Teahouse used to frequently visit by publications and bureaucrats for information during Qing Dynasties. Today, Beijing people still like to hang out in teahouse as well as the tourists.
ancient Chinese are always mysterious, and modern Chinese has lost a lot of Chinese tradition, but the only thing which hasn’t been changed is the characters of their language, it is difficult, but it is intereting, learn Chinese is a long term progress, speak Chinese is really challenging.
