There are a wide variety of travel accommodation options available for those traveling with their pets, as well as a number of search engines available to find pet friendly hotels where ever you might be traveling. Some hotel chains tend to be pet friendly.  However, since not all locations in a chain are necessarily owned by the same people, not all locations will be dog friendly. There are a variety of pet friendly hotel that you can look into if you are going to be traveling with your dog.

An example of pet friendly motels include the Motel 6 chain, with most of the motels in this chain allowing dogs. The pets need to be attended at all time, and only one well behaved pet is allowed per room. Dogs must be kept on leashes throughout your stay, and must be declared when you check in. You also need to be considerate and clean up after your pets.

One of the largest chains of pet friendly motels is Best Western. They have over 1,800 locations that allow pets, including over 1,000 in the US and  Canada. You need to book ahead of time and double check their policy on pets, as these may vary from hotel to hotel in the chain. For example, in San Francisco the pet must be under 50 pounds and attended at all times or kennelled, and the guests must stay in a basic room on the first floor. However, in the San Diego Mission Bay location dogs must be under 25 pounds. There is $20 non refundable deposit per night, the dogs can’t be left alone, and they must be walked with a leash.

Other dog friendly motel chains include:

America’s Best Value Inn
Clarion Inn & Suites
Comfort Inn & Suites
Comfort Suites
Country Inn
Courtyard by Marriott
EconoLodge
Fairfield Inn by Marriott
Kimpton
La Quinta Inns and Suites
Mainstay Suites
Marriott Hotels & Resorts
Novotel
Quality Inn
Radisson
Red Roof Inn
Renaissance Hotels & Suites
Rodeway Inn
Sleep Inn
Spring Hill Suites by Marriott
Studio 6
Suburban Extended Stay Hotels
TownePlace Suites by Marriott

Whichever hotel or motel chain you are interested in staying at, be sure to check out the pet policy of the specific hotel you are considering. Not all hotels or motels in a chain have the same policy, and policies are continually changing, so it is hard for the dog friendly databases to keep up with them.  You may also want to think about pet insurance. One excellent and regularly updated resource is the PetTravel.com database.

Are you planning on a vacation? Are you also planning to take your favorite pet with you? If so, you should know that most motels and hotels have a no pet admission policy, and therefore will not allow you to lodge there. However, you don’t need to worry as there many pet friendly hotels located throughout the world which are more than willing to solve your problem.
