Very important pieces of equipment for any hiking trip are a good selection of maps and a compass and then you can add items such as flashlights/headlamps, some extra food, a few extra clothes and a pair of good sunglasses. Next, you can add to your hiking equipment list items such as a first-aid kit and a pocket knife and some matches that are waterproof and then you can add items such as filters/water and bottles and finally a whistle.
A detailed map can help you navigate your way safely while a compass can prove its worth in the backcountry where chances of getting lost are great. Of course, you also need to learn how to use your compass for it to have any value.
Flashlights as too headlamps are essential for a day hike, especially in case circumstances force you into staying overnight in the outdoors. It’s obvious why you would need extra food and extra clothes and the same goes for a pair of sunglasses.
A first-aid kit will help you take care of minor kinds of injuries while a pocket knife and some tools will help you in a number of ways – especially when you choose to take along a Swiss Army knife with you. Waterproof matches will ensure that you can always strike up a fire while a fire-starter too will perform the same functions, especially in emergency situations.
Even with a good tent you may want to experience a little more luxury for the odd night on your travels by staying in a caravan. Caravan and motorhome porch awnings add versatility and are a great way to provide extra accommodation. If you are using a motorhome to get around, make sure you get a short term car insurance policy for your trip, if this is required.
