The German auto maker Volkswagen Group has been manufacturing a vehicle called the Volkswagen Jetta since 1979.  The same vehicle has been manufactured for five generations already, but in different selling brands – the Bora, the Atlantic, the Vento, the town Jetta, the GLI Jetta, the Jetta City, the Sagitar, and the Fox.  This mid-range family automobile was positioned to be Volkswagen’s pub or sedan vehicle, which is above the compact and tiny family automobile offering that VW already had through the Volkswagen golf, which was a hunchback car.  Over 6.6 million units of the Jetta have been sold since its introduction up to 2005.  Over a third of the 6.6 million cars were sold in the US.  Originally, the Jetta was styled by just adding to the Volkswagen golf hunchback a conventional truck.  The Jetta had bought its own unique design later. 

Two versions of the Jetta sedan have been available – a two-door and four-door saloon.  A station-wagon version is available as a five-door estate.  All versions are 5-seater cars.  As for its name, in Volkswagen’s history, particularly in the 1970s, a lot of its models were named after distinguished winds.  Examples of this trend are Volkswagen Scirocco ( after sirocco ), Volkswagen golf ( after Gulf Stream ), Volkswagen Passat ( after the German for trade wind ), and Volkswagen Bora ( after bora ).  In this model’s case, the Jetta springs from the German language term for’jet stream.’ Since the 1st version of the auto was introduced in 1980, the car’s size and power has then grown in both power and size. 

The current generation of Jettas available in the automobile market is the 5th generation.  Style-wise, it’s got a chrome front grille, which some critics still dismiss as bland.  The engine is a powerful, fuel-efficient 1.4 litre turbocharged engine with 4 cylinders and a DSG transmission with 6 speeds.  A 6th generation of the Jetta is slated to be introduced in 2010 for the 2011 model year.
