The first country recognised for having some of the most ancient civilizations is Egypt, and now it has a contender. However what if there were some contenders that haven’t really been recognised, mainly that in Canada?
In Vancouver it has recently been unearthed that Aborigines may have lived here up to 10,000 years ago. There is much evidence to show these people could have survived, mainly because of the diverse ecosystem. The ecosystem around Vancouver at this time is shown to have the properties required to support human like life. The ability to hunt for food would be very easy. The group of people that would have lived here before Vancouver was even thought of, were named the Coast Salish, they were an ancient people, and it is possible that some people today are there descendants.
However like every other country in the world, Vancouver evolved, once discovered by Europeans, industrialisation was begun. Jose Maria Narvaez sailed past the place which would become Vancouver but didn’t actually stop to survey or map it out.
A man named George Vancouver mapped out and surveyed most of the area where Vancouver was going to be built, so it was aptly named after him. George Vancouver had it named after him another 100 years after he had surveyed the area. New Westminster was then named as the capital of British Columbia in 1859. Vancouver and British Columbia get united into one in 1866, and a new city is born.
Vancouver has a very wide and diverse history, and is known by many to be one of the most culturally diverse countries in the world. Many Of the people that live in Vancouver actually have a first language that isn’t related to English, in fact more than half of them. The Gold rush is probably Canada’s biggest claim to fame and they would be quite right to grab it, Vancouver especially..
So are you looking for great Canada holidays this year, or just a holiday in general, well if you like history, then surely Vancouver holidays have to be on your to do’s, if not then why not Toronto holidays!
