Two Indian men have just been charged with premeditated murder for cutting the throat of a fellow Indian while inside his car parked at Dubai International Airport’s Terminal 2.
The accused, two indian men aged 31 and 23, waited two hours for their victim to finish his work on November 13th in 2008. They followed him to his car in the airport parking lot and one man jumped into the passenger seat where he restrained the victim while the other assailant sat behind him, pulling his head back by the hair and cutting his throat.
The murder is alleged to have been carried out over money that was allegedly owed by the victim. It was reported that they had been following the victim for two months before they finally murdered him.
The next hearing of the case is scheduled to take place on August 24th at the Dubai Criminal court.
It has been proposed that a specialist prosecution office is established at the airport to handle the increase in criminal activity. There were a total of 3,234 reported cases, between January 1st and June 30th 2007, and this figure increased to 3,452 during the same period in 2008.
It is expected that the specialist airport prosecution service will help to speed legal processes whenever a crime is committed at the airport. It is expected to reduce workload and improve litigation services. Most drug trafficking cases involved people swallowing narcontics concealed in capsules.
It is thought that increased vigilance in cracking down on narcotics trafficking has led to the sharp drop in drug cases detected at the airport. It has been estimated that narcotics related cases had fallen by as much as 30% in the first half of this year. Most of the drug trafficking cases (95%) were found to be for small amounts, brought into the country for personal use.
